Santa Barbara water temperatures range from the mid-50s in winter to the mid-60s in late summer, so the right wetsuit thickness changes with the season.

General Guidelines

  • 3/2mm: Great for summer and early fall sessions.
  • 4/3mm: Our default for most of the year, and what we provide for after-school seasons.
  • 5/4mm: Reserved for the coldest winter mornings.

Fit Matters More Than Thickness

A loose wetsuit lets in cold water and cancels out any thermal advantage. Kids grow fast, so we re-check fit every season rather than assuming last year's suit still works.

All gear is provided as part of every After-School and Weekend Season at Sea League, so families never need to buy a wetsuit before their first season.
